Photographer Glen Craig at Sadowsky's workshop

Let us begin with a brief story of Glen Craig – a prominent figure in the world of music photography.

Craig is an outstanding photographer and a living legend. Thanks to his work, we can forever look at such music icons as: Aretha Franklin, James Brown, B.B. King, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Wayne Cochran, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Beach Boys, Loving Spoonful, The Doors.

When he was photographing B.B. King in the late 1960s, the Columbia / CBS record label introduced Glen to Miles Davis, which took place in New York City. The company wanted to help Davis cross over to a more mainstream music audience, and Glen and Miles developed a trusting relationship. It allowed the photographer to take pictures of Davis at home, at the gym, and in the studio. Glen Craig went on to photograph Miles in 1970 for Zygote magazine, which ran an 18-page feature on the jazz icon, including many of the photos shown here, which cover three weeks Craig spent with Miles Davis, leading up to and including his performances at the Fillmore East in June 1970.
